THE FERRY m/s NORDÖLAND 
(1963–1971)

The ferry m/s Nordöland operated the Oskarshamn-Byxelkrok route during the summer seasons from 1963 to 1971. The vessel could carry 14 cars and 300 passengers. Originally built as a steamship in 1884, she underwent extensive rebuilding in 1952, when she was converted to motor propulsion.

HISORY

April 1885

Delivered as s/s Lysekil to Marstrands Nya Ångfartygs AB. Operated on the route Gothenburg - Marstrand - Lysekil - Smögen.

July 1952

Rebuilt at Aalborg Shipyard, Denmark. Converted to motor propulsion and fitted with new main engines producing 1,137 hp (836 kW).

30 April 1963

Sold for SEK 90,000 and renamed Nordöland. Byxelkrok became her new home port. The vessel was modified to carry cars on both the fore and aft decks, with a total capacity of 14 vehicles. A loading ramp was installed at the stern.

1972

The vessel was scrapped.
