THE FERRY m/s SOLÖN
(1983-1990)

The m/s Solön was a car and passenger ferry operated the Oskarshamn–Byxelkrok route from 1983 to 1990. The vessel was capable of carrying buses as well as lorries.

HISTORY

1964

Delivered as M/S Bastö IV to A/S Alpha in Norway.

1978

Sold to Rederi AB Eckerö in Finland and renamed M/S Rospiggen.

1983

Arrived in Sweden and was operated by several regional companies under the name m/s Solön, serving the Kalmarsund area and the  Oskarshamn-Byxelkrok route.

1986

Sold to Ö-Linjen in Byxelkrok.

1988

Sold to the shipping company Ölandsfärjan AB.

1990

Sold abroad (Honduras and later Africa), where she served in several roles, including as a refugee accommodation ship.

1995

The vessel was sunk at sea using an explosive charge.
