THE FERRY m/s SOLSUND
(1991-1997, 2004-present)

The current ferry, m/s Solsund, is a classic car and passenger ferry that has operated the Oskarshamn-Byxelkrok route during the summer season since 2004. Before being rebuilt in 2005, the vessel served the Västervik-Byxelkrok route from 1991 to 1993. From 1994 to 1997, she operated the Oskarshamn-Byxelkrok route.

HISTORY

1969

Built as m/s Torghatten and entered service as a road ferry in northern Norway.

1990

Sold to Faxe Rederi in Färjestaden and renamed m/s Solsund.

1991

Following the bankruptcy of Faxe Rederi, the vessel was sold to Spårö Shipping Company in Västervik and operated the Vöstervik-Byxelkrok route during the summer seasons.

1996

Following another bankruptcy caused by engine failure, the vessel was laid up in Färjestaden.

1998

Sold to Ölandsfärjan AB.

2004

Returned to summer service on the Oskarshamn-Byxelkrok route in 2004.

2019

Sold to Ölandslinjen AB.

2024

Sold to 90North Holding AB. Operations continue under the name Rederi Ölandslinjen AB.
