THE STEAM FERRY s/s BORGHOLM
(1878-1885, 1897)

In 1878, s/s Borgholm inaugurated the first regular steamship service between Oskarshamn and northern Öland. The route ran from Oskarshamn via Mönsterås and Borgholm to Alvedsjöbodar and Byxelkrok, with some sailings continuing to Kalmar. During the late nineteenth century, the vessel provided regular passenger services linking the fishing communities and loading sites of northern Öland with the Swedish mainland.

Delivered by Oskarshamn Mekaniska Verkstad as Borgholm to Oscarshamn Steamship Company, Oskarshamn. Entered service on the Oskarshamn-Visby route.

1878

Transferred to the route linking Oskarshamn, Mönsterås, Borgholm, Alvedsjöbodar, Byxelkrok and Kalmar.

15 November 1919

Ran aground between Landsort and Södertälje. The vessel sustained extensive damage and was subsequently scrapped.
